A Frosty Forest Friday

It was a cold day in the forest today! The temperature stayed in the 20s the entire time, but we loved it! Only a few of our forest friends felt cold. We had some great volunteers today. A shout out to Red Back Salamander's Grandma, Coyote's Dad, Moose's Mom, and, of course, Mrs. Woodpecker, who comes every week to help us out! We could not do it without you! Thanks also to Mr. Swallow for tending our fire and making sure the soup was hot and the hot chocolate was ready!

Last week during our literacy station, some kids performed the play, Stone Soup! Kindergarten and Mrs. Swallow decided it would be a great idea to make Stone Soup as our Forest Snack this week. It was a great idea! WE all loved it!

Grey Squirrel was working on the waterfall
Moose is carrying an ice chunk to the river.
Skunk was jumping off the railing. It was fun. "I fell on my bottom and slid. Then, I jumped in the water."
Today we performed The Gingerbread Man. "Run, Run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I am the Gingerbread Man."
Raccoon, Moose, and Vermont Frog were playing raccoons. This was there den.
Grey Squirrel is swinging on a broken branch. He loved swinging.
We played Builders and Bulldozers during PE. The Bulldozers had to knock the cones down and the Builders had to pick them back up.
Kids are having fun in Dirty City. They built an obstacle course. It was so much fun. It was part of many kids forest plans!
Coyote was jumping off the tree.
Snack time! Yeah!!!!
We made Stone Soup. We got to eat it. There was potatoes, carrots, chicken broth, corn, celery and onions.  It tasted delicious. Raccoon even had THREE bowls!  Yum!!!
Morning Dove was digging out a tree and pulled it so hard that she fell over and her hat fell off during sit spots.
Possum was helping bury Grey Squirrel. We were doing an experiment. We learned that animals under ground stay warm because of the snow.
Raccoon is laying in the snow and am trying to dig to the bottom of the ground.
Possum was digging under the snow to see if she could find something. Then, she got to an icy spot and tried to break through it but she couldn't.
Vermont Frog and Grey Squirrel are eating Stone Soup.
More action from the Gingerbread Man. Skunk played the Fox and ate the Gingerbread Man.
Vermont Frog got buried by Mouse. She was very warm! It was like getting buried in the sand when she visits the beach.
Morning Dove got buried too! When she was buried, she got cold. So much for being warm.
Skunk and Grey Fox were eating Stone Soup and drinking hot chocolate.
Possum was shoveling snow on top of Painted Turtle.
The kids got to bury Mrs. Sparrow. It was crazy!!!!
We learning about our new GoPro camera. We are going to make a movie in the Forest.
We are excited to share with you our movies when we are done!
